Frequently asked Questions

Accurate information is key to high-quality execution, which is why we are here to answer your questions.
What are lyes used for?
Lyes are colored pigments that enhance or color wood while keeping the grain visible. They can also unify contrast-heavy woods. Lyes are not topcoats, so they must be sealed with a protective finish. Available in water- and solvent-based versions.
Can lyes be mixed together?
Yes. ADLER lyes (e.g., Arova Alpin, Arova Rustica, Arova Ultra) can be mixed within the same product group to achieve desired tones.
Which lyes is suitable for which type of wood?
The choice of the right stain depends on various factors. The type of wood plays an important role, as not every lye is suitable for all types of wood. There are lyes suitable for softwoods, such as spruce and pine, and stains that can be used for hardwoods, such as oak and beech. The color shade and the effect of staining also strongly depend on the quality of the wood. For softwood, we recommend Arova Ultra and Arova Wax, as both provide a positive staining effect with just one coat. Arova Classic and Arova Style are ideal choices for hardwood, as they emphasize the natural beauty of the wood and its grain.
